She Looks at Him In Wonder

She looks at him in wonder

As the afterglow fades into memory

How could she have known that a man, this man

Would fill her life so fully?

She reaches up to touch him

Her finger tracing the line of his jaw

Knowing here,  together,

She’s safe, happy, belongs,

How could she have known the gamble

On him, on them,

Could have exceeded expectations

And made past pains fade from view?

She sighs, as they drift to sleep together

Thinking of the years  shared

And the ones yet to come.

Each day, never taken for granted.

She looks at him in wonder,

Just as he looks at her.
